Tonight’s Eagles vs Giants game is one that on paper, seems like the Giants should clean up… The
throbbing Giants have taken eight of the last nine games, and the limp-dicked Eagles have lost nine of the last eleven games.
But if there’s one thing that the Eagles-Giants Week 15 match-up in 2010 taught me, it’s that there isn’t a lead big enough, and there’s isn’t too little time on the clock for ANYTHING to be safe…
This game absolutely still haunts my dreams. I sincerely believe to myself that no game that we are winning, or ANY of my teams is winning, is a “lock” until that clock strikes 0:00.
When Ketch and I (as well as a couple of our producers/loyal fans of Water Cooler Sports) attended this game and witnessed this happen, a little part of me died. I like to think this is how Patriots fans felt during Super Bowl XLII where it was like “no… God no, this can’t be happening”…
…but then it does happen and life sucks.
Lucky for Big Blue Nation, tonight’s match-up isn’t a Super Bowl and there’s much less riding on this game… All we need is a single win in the next two weeks (by the sabermetrics I’m looking at) to clinch. If we win this week AND next, and Dallas loses both its final two weeks (MNF this week home vs Detroit and then on the road in Philly Week 17), then we clinch the NFC and a bye in the First Round. Do I think that will happen? No, probably not. But I did predict an 11-5 season back at the beginning of all this, and while I missed A LOT of how we got there, the important thing is that we are here.
Later today, I’ll do a full breakdown of the different playoff scenario’s so stay tuned…
