This summer, our boy Ice Cube is starting a 3 on 3 basketball league.  You are eligible to play in the league if you are a former professional player, and you’re over thirty and I am so fucking pumped for this.  Here are some of the players that have already committed to the eight team league: Allen Iverson, Chauncey Billups, Stephen Jackson, Kenyon Martin, Rashard Lewis, Mike Bibby, Jermaine O’Neal, Bonzi Wells and white chocolate himself, Jason Williams.

The games will be played on half courts and I’m assuming they’ll be played on blacktops as opposed to gyms.  At least that’s my hope.  The teams will be a Captain/Coach (Iverson is officially one of them) and four other players, AND there will be a draft in March.  Basically, it’s going to be NBA Street which is going to be a dream of mine coming true.

Let me tell you, I’ve played many an NBA Street game with the trio of AI, Rashard Lewis and Kenyon Martin, and those three are damn near unbeatable.  Rashard Lewis was one of the most underrated players in that game.  Great shooter, but had the power and dunkability to throw it down.  Kenyon Martin’s power was off the charts so if someone ran into him, they would just fall and AI’s skills go without saying.  Basically what I’m saying is that if NBA Street is any indication of how this league is going to go, Iverson needs to draft Rashard Lewis and K-Mart.

But even more than that, this is a great group of players they got.  White Chocolate?  Are you kidding me?  Every “Street” game needs the white guy that’s got dope handles and White Chocolate is literally the perfect guy for that.  Stephen Jackson is psychotic so he’ll fit in great.  Bonzi Wells has that “baller” name and Bibby, O’Neal and Billips while may not be the flashiest, they’re great additions.

Now, who else should join?  I think Garnett and Kobe are obvious choices since they’re freshly retired and can probably still ball.  But here’s my list of guys I want to see join the league based solely on how good they were in NBA Street:  Rasheed Wallace, Ray Allen, Damon Stoudemire, Karl Malone, Shaq, Keith Van Horn, Latrell Spreewell and Dikembe Mutombo.  You get those guys in there, maybe throw in Yao and Rafer Alston and we’re in serious business.  Now, they just need to air every single game on network television.  That’s right, not ESPN – I want these games on ABC during primetime.  With Joe Show at center court.
Two final things:  One, I hope that while these teams do play each other, they treat it like NBA Street and the teams have to travel to different parks to play regional “Street” Teams.  And two, hopefully this means there will be an NBA Street 4 coming out soon.
