I saw this on ESPN earlier today, and it caught my attention big time.
Umpires get dumped on all the time… Nobody, and I repeat nobody, remembers the good calls because that’s what they’re supposed to do. They’re not heroes but without them the game can’t be played. But today, I’m going to give unbelievable props to a hero.
His name is John Tumpane, he’s been an umpire in the MLB since 2010. He’s 34. And he saved someone’s life yesterday. Listen to his account of the story below.
This guy could make a million bad calls in his career, he could blow a perfect game, I don’t care – in my book – this guy is a fucking hero. Great story out of Pittsburgh, nice reminder than even the umpires we dump on occasionally are real people.
